Undergraduate Students
Our lab offers undergraduate research opportunities to student volunteers, those seeking independent study credits, and those pursuing honors research. Paid hourly positions are also available each semester from 2024-2027.
We host students from various degree paths (e.g., Animal Science, Anthropology, Biology, Exercise Science, Predental). Many ultimately present their work at professional academic meetings or publish in peer-reviewed journals. While research volunteers are accepted on a semester-by-semester basis, those pursuing course credits or thesis research are expected to work in the lab for at least one academic year. These students are also required to spend a set number of hours in the lab each week, provide progress updates at monthly lab meetings, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing research initiatives.
To join the lab, students should contact Kathleen Paul (kspaul@uark.edu) or set up an advising appointment in UASuccess.
Graduate Students
The lab accepts a small number of graduate students each year at the masters and/or doctoral level. Students pursuing a PhD are required to have already earned an MA/MS or equivalent degree prior to entering the program. Graduate students will be expected to complete coursework, pursue original research, and participate in professional development opportunities, including publishing work in academic journals and presenting research at (inter)national conferences. We encourage those interested in dental anthropology, bioarchaeology, craniofacial biology, 3D imaging/image processing, tooth morphology, and quantitative genetics to apply.
Applicants must apply through the Department of Anthropology and Graduate School at University of Arkansas. See the Department of Anthropology website for guidelines and requirements. Graduate stipends and tuition waivers are available through GA/TA positions. Additional funding may be available through the Graduate School. For more information on these opportunities, see the Graduate School’s Funding page.
Prospective students should contact Kathleen Paul (kspaul@uark.edu) and set up a time to discuss their research interests and potential opportunities in the lab.
Postdoctoral Students
Postdoc positions are not available unless externally funded. Currently, the lab has no open on-campus postdoc positions. Prospective students should contact Kathleen Paul (kspaul@uark.edu) to discuss interests and alternative funding options.
